Enterprise iLembe visits Ndwedwe families on Mandela Day

19 July 2018: Enterprise iLembe visited three families in Ndwedwe to hand-over groceries, beds, rocket stoves and solar panel installations as part of the entity’s 67 Minutes for Mandela celebration on Wednesday the 18th of July 2018. The day is celebrated internationally as the Mandela Day.

The entity was accompanied by the King of the KwaNyuswa clan, iNkosi Mlamuli Ngcobo and iLembe District Municipality Mayor, Sduduzo Gumede. Enterprise iLembe is the economic development agency of the iLembe District Municipality with a mandate to drive economic development and to promote trade and investment in the region.

The three families that were visited are Nkwakwa family, Ngcobo family and Maphumulo family. Enterprise iLembe Chairperson Khanyisani Shandu & CEO Nathi Nkomzwayo said they identified the three families which are in need and felt that it would only be appropriate for the entity to come and spend the Mandela Day with them.

“We identified the three families with different circumstances and needs, one family is a child-headed home whose living conditions are quite sad. The other family looks after an elderly man who is 100 years old, which is the same age as that of Madiba whom we are celebrating today. We were quite moved to see that despite being very old, he can still talk and has good memory as he still remembers former President Nelson Mandela and other struggle icons. We are very happy that we were able to play our part on such an important day in the country,” said Shandu.

Speaking on behalf of iLembe District Municipality, Gumede commended the collaboration between Enterprise iLembe and various stakeholders including the private sector that came forward and supported the initiative. “What we are seeing here today, various organizations coming together and making a difference in the lives of the poor, is consistent with the values that Mandela stood for. We are very encouraged by this and we hope that we will continue to see such collaborative initiatives between government and private sector within our district,” said Gumede.

The initiative was supported by Tundra Energy, Rocket Works, Prominance UPVC Windows, Boxer, Boxer Build, Mzobe Tractors, Zululand Nursery and Indayi Communications. These companies donated various items which were handed-over to families.

Inkosi Ngcobo expressed his gratitude and welcomed the donations made to the families. “I am happy to see such gesture being done for these families by Enterprise iLembe on this important day when we are celebrating the life of our struggle icon. I would like to thank all the companies that contributed in making this initiative a success,” said iNkosi Ngcobo.
